Toddler Falls Out of a Moving Car, His Grandfather Drove on Without Stopping


This is a scary moment when a toddler, a two year old boy fell out of a moving car onto the busy road in China. The footage was captured on a dashboard camera on the car behind in  Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, on the morning of February 27.

The boy’s grandfather, Yang Defu was driving the van when the “restless” toddler reportedly began scrambling around the vehicle before climbing into the trunk. The young boy climbed over the back seat and fell out of the vehicle when the door opened.

The boy rolled on the floor, got up and started running towards the vehicle. However the vehicle, was driving off without him.

A good Samaritan who was driving behind the van rushed to the toddler’s rescue. Another driver then chased after the grandfather’s van. “I was waiting the red light. After passing the intersection, a car chased after me and kept sounding the horn,” the boy’s grandfather said, according to Sky News. “The driver told me a kid fell out of my van. I looked back, parked my van aside and went to search for my grandson.”

In the dashcam footage, the grandfather can be seen rushing over to retrieve the fallen toddler who did not suffer any injuries. He was extremely grateful to find that his grandson was safe, and said the consequences could have been disastrous.

The grandfather explained that the boot door had been damaged in a previous collision and would occasionally fly open its own.

Following the incident, local traffic police reminded drivers to practice child passenger safety. Child safety seats are not common in China, and according to People’s Daily, and child mortality rate from traffic accidents in the country is extremely high because of this.
