Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao, the world-renowned boxer and newly proclaimed senator-elect said Thursday to his first press conference as Upper House legislator that he is in favor of death penalty, a strong opposition in the Catholic nation.
Pacquiao, a devout evangelical Christian said he supported the capital punishment because it was sanctioned by his faith. According to him, “Im in favor of the death penalty. Actually God allows this in the Bible.”
The boxing hero has vowed to take his political duties seriously. He said he will perform his job well, avoid corruption and be a God-fearing servant of the people.
Pacquiao also wanted to push a better education for Filipinos.
Analyst say that Manny Pacquiao has an eye on the presidency and his period in the senate is a possible stepping stone for the top office.
