An Airport Janitor Returns A Belt Bag With P200,000 Cash


An NAIA janitor, named Bobby Duarte, 31, assigned at the airport for the past 11 years  was cleaning a comfort room inside Terminal 2 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) when he a belt bag containing $4,400 in cash (around P200,000) and identification cards.


The cash found inside the belt bag is owned by a 71 year old Filipino-American balikbayan, Reynaldo Domingo Bautista,one of the arriving passengers of Philippine Airlines flight PR105 from San Francisco on Thursday morning.

The janitor receives a monthly salary of P12,000 but it never entered his mind to keep the money he found so he returned the belt bag to its rightful owner.

Head of the Lost and Found Section of the Intelligence & Investigation Division, Airport Police Corporal Reynon Flores said that aside from cash, they found Bautista’s personal information and contact number which they used to get in touch with him.

According to Duarte, in an interview with ABS-CBN, said he tried to locate belt bag’s owner by using the public address system of NAIA Terminal 1 but nobody replied. “Nakauwi na po ang lhat ng pasahero kaya po dinala ko na ang belt bag sa Lost & Found Section ng Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

For his part, Bautista, the owner of the belt bag, said he only found out that his belt bag was missing when he got the call from MIAA.  He went to the comfort room where the janitor is assigned to personally express his gratitude.

NAIA Terminal 1 manager, Dante Basanta, said he will recommend to the MIAA Praise Board the airport janitor for his exemplary honesty. According to Durte, “Hindi po ako mayaman pero hindi naman ako pinababayaan ng Diyos sa lahat ng aking kailangan”.
