Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, a 26-year old Filipina-German actress and model, ended the Philippines’ 42 – year title drought in the prestigious pageant. She was hailed as Miss Universe 2015 during the coronation night held at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, USA.
Before the announcement, host Steve Harvey made a mistake and announced the name of Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as Miss Universe 2015, and Wurtzbach was first runner-up Pia already thought she lost the crown to Ms.Colombia until Harvey took the stage to apologize. He announced and even flashed the cue card on screen to prove that Miss Philippines was the pageant’s real winner while Ms.Colombia was the first runner-up.
On January 8, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach guested on New York radio show “Sway in the Morning” as part of her media rounds. The 20-minute interview tackled issues about her experience in Miss Universe, her advocacy, and the Philippines. Pia said she will be working with different groups during her reign. The HIV awareness, relief operations, and cyberbullying are actually her advocacies.
She also said she had no hard feeling for Steve Harvey and even wants to show him around the Philippines. She talked about major attractions in the Philippines such as Boracay, Manila and more. Pia also speaks how Americanized the Philippines is.
In some part of the show, Wurtzbach performed her version of Britney Spears’ hit song “Baby One More Time” on their “Karaoke” time. It became one of the highlights of her guesting on New York radio show, “Sway in the Morning”
At the end of the interview, the main host said, “You are a class act. Congratulations. You deserved that crown.”
