Meet The Fil-Am Who Started The Petition For The Termination Of Manny Pacquiao's Nike Contract


This Wednesday, Nike, the sports megabrand announced the termination of Manny Pacquiao's contract as an endorser. It was announced after the derogatory remarks of the eigth-time world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao towards his stand on same-sex marriage.
Meet the person who started an online petition for Manny Pacquiao's Nike Contract. A graduate student named  Aries Dela Cruz. He is the one who knocked-out Manny Pacquiao, not inside the ring but in the world of athlete endorsement deals.

When Dela Cruz heard about the "worst than animal" issue of Pacquiao, he posted an online petition urging Nike to drop the Filipino boxing champ. It was titled "#DropPacman - Boycott Corporations Until they Drop #MannyPacquiao."

"Pacquiao's expressions of homophobia and bigotry disqualifies him from being honored, endorsed and sponsored by one of the world's largest publicly-traded and owned athletic companies, particularly one that is celebrated and well-known for their promotion of sportsmanship and excellence." cited in the petition.
